Midlands Eggs was founded in 2011 as a humble egg packing facility, opened by two local egg farmers. Since then it has grown to become a trusted household brand in KZN and currently represents several local egg farmers.
We think supporting local is important, don’t you?
In 2018 we took a major step in our commitment to quality and invested in a state-of-the-art egg grading machine all the way from the Netherlands. It was a big step forward for us as it allowed us to handle eggs faster and more efficiently, but most importantly, it allows us tighter control over every egg that passes through our facility.

DID YOU KNOW?
HENS LAY APPROXIMATELY ONE EGG A DAY
At the heart of our grading machine are the detection systems that allow us to inspect each egg at an individual level. This advanced technology allows us to set strict quality parameters that ensure only the best eggs make it through to our customers. We are now able to achieve a greater degree of consistency in our product, by being able to detect and remove cracked and dirty eggs automatically. We can even detect and remove blood spots inside the egg with an impressive degree of confidence.
There are three main detection systems that each egg at our facility must pass through before being given our stamp of approval. These are:
egg inspection - dirty eggs are detected and separated,
crack detection - cracked eggs are detected and separated (even the ones we can’t see),
blood detection - detects and removes any eggs with blood spots

All our farmers collect their eggs on reusable plastic trays that are cleaned and sanitised regularly to ensure a high degree of cleanliness. This minimises wastage associated with the use of pulp packaging.
FUN FACT:
When it comes to our reusable trays, we use a colour coordinated system to prevent muddle ups during collection, handling and transport. This is an important step in our traceability system.
We think it looks pretty cool too.
WE HAVE A FULL TRACEABILITY SYSTEM IN PLACE TO TRACE EACH EGG ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE FARM THEY WERE LAID ON
